Man with suspicious package in custody, White House lockdown lifted

The White House was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning, following the report of a suspicious package near the grounds.

Reporters and journalists took to Twitter shortly before 10:30 a.m., saying the White House was placed on lockdown, the lawns were cleared and they were locked inside.

The Secret Service confirmed they were investigating a "suspicious package" discovered near the White House and added that road closures are in effect.

White House correspondent for Sputnik Andrew Feinberg tweeted the White House lockdown was lifted at 11:37 a.m. The Secret Service then tweeted that the investigation into the suspicious package was ongoing and a suspect was in custody.
