New details emerge in shooting death of 21-year-old in public housing stairwell
MORRISANIA, The Bronx (WPIX) — A 21-year-old woman was shot and killed in the Bronx, her lifeless body found in the stairwell of a housing development, police said.
The victim, identified as Aaliyah Alder, was found about 10:40 p.m. Monday with a gunshot wound to her head inside an eighth-floor stairwell at the Forest Houses on Tinton Avenue, according to the NYPD.
Authorities said officers were called about reports of shots being fired. When they arrived, Alder was pronounced dead.
The victim did not live at the Forest Houses. Police listed her address as being about 1 1/2 miles away in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.
Police sources told PIX11 News on Tuesday that Alder had gone to the Forest Houses to settle a dispute with the father of her friend's child. It's still unclear what led to the deadly shooting.
Late into the night, distraught family members and friends gathered near the scene. Condolences poured in for the young woman on Facebook.
PIX11 News' cameras captured a handcuffed man being taken away by officers, but police said no arrests have been made in the slaying.
