The Munich polar bear cub has a name: Quintana

A polar bear cub at Munich zoo has been named Quintana. After the upset of Berlin's polar bear cub Fritz, heir of famous Berlin polar bear Knut, dying of complications from a liver inflammation at the tender age of only four months two weeks ago, all eyes and hopes were on the little white rascal at the Munich Hellabrunn zoo.

The cub, which was born in November, appeared unimpressed at the naming ceremony on Thursday, March 23rd, but seemed much more interested in the frozen treats and large pretzel that were given to it.

The rather unusual name was chosen because a Hellabrunn zoo rule states that all animals born in 2016 must have names starting with a 'q'. Favorites among the visitors were soon established: Queenie and Quintana.
