4-year-old boy accidentally hangs himself in dressing room

While spending time with his grandmother, 4-year-old Ryu Pena accidentally hanged himself inside a store's dressing room.

The pair were inside Again Thrift and More in Mankato, Minnesota, when tragedy struck.

Police say Ryu sneaked away from his grandmother, who was still shopping, and went inside an empty changing room.

According to CNN, he closed the door, climbed on a bench and got the hoodie he was wearing caught on a coat hook.

"We believe that he got himself caught up on a coat hook within that dressing room area and couldn't free himself from it," Commander Jeremy Clifton with Mankato Public Safety told WCCO.

Ryu's feet couldn't reach the floor, so he hung there long enough to be suffocated as his grandmother frantically looked for him.

The boy's mother, Denise Gonzalez, said he lost his life by simply playing.

"That's the only way I can describe it. He was playing because he's very curious, adventurous, and it all just happened so quickly," she told WCCO.

"He was such a daredevil."

His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
