Newly declassified atomic bomb test footage finally released

Thousands of nuclear testing explosion films have finally be released after decades in their film cans.

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is behind the massive declassification of more than 10,000 mesmerizing test films, and more than 60 videos have been uploaded to a YouTube playlist.

For 20 years after World War II, the US conducted hundreds of atmospheric nuclear tests, according to CNN.

Greg Spriggs, a nuclear weapons physicist at the laboratory who's in charge of the project, says the films were decomposing "to the point where they'll become useless."

Many of the videos were saved just in time, and will be remembered online instead of decomposing in a bunker.
