Police arrest mother suspected of abandoning 2-year-old in grocery store

Police in Riverside, California have arrested a woman they say allegedly abandoned her 2-year-old daughter in an area grocery store on Sunday night, reports the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Riverside Police Department, surveillance video taken at the Food 4 Less shows 31-year-old Chiengkham Vilaysane shopping with the girl, but when the toddler wanders off, Vilaysane appears to make no effort to find her.

Though they are reunited soon after, the mother is later seen leaving the store alone.

Vilaysane was arrested on Tuesday after a bank teller recognized her and called the police.
