7-month-old baby dies after he's found face down in dirty mop water

A 7-month-old baby boy died after being found brain-dead face down in a bucket of dirty mop water, police said.

The baby was in critical condition, doctors told police, after he was found not breathing and without a pulse when paramedics rescued him Monday.

Police told FOX23 they got the call on early Monday from an apartment building in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The baby was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

The mother of the infant told detectives that she had given the baby a bottle and went to sleep next to him in bed.

She claims she woke up after the child had fallen into the bucket.

Police told reporters that they remain suspicious of the accident.

At the time of of incident, the mother told police that she was the only adult present at the home.

However, the woman also reported that there were three other children in the living room when the baby had fallen face first into the water: a 4-year-old and one pair of 2-year-old twins.

Following the incident, all four of the children were placed into the custody of Oklahoma Department of Human Services as police continue the investigation.

Police records show the mother admitted to abusing drugs 48 hours leading up to the incident. The child was also said to have tested positive for marijuana shortly after his birth.
