The most viral moments from the 2016 NCAA tournament

Updated

As we make room in our hearts for the viral moments of the 2017 NCAA tournament, it's important to reflect on those from the past year.

7. Bill Murray's rollercoaster of emotions

The actor and avid Xavier fan was consistently shown as he pulled for his team during the tournament. His son is an assistant coach for the Musketeers. In the second round, the No. 2 seed was favored to win over No. 7 Wisconsin -- but with 5:42 to go, Xavier blew an 8-point lead and scored only 4 points. Murray was sad, and we were sad for him.

6. Syracuse's fairytale Final Four bid

The No. 10 seed should not have made it very far in the NCAA tournament, so every win they inexplicably racked up sent social media into a tizzy. Perhaps their most viral moment was the way the team held No. 1 Virginia to only score two points during an eight-minute span in their legendary comeback in the Elite Eight.

5. Taurean Prince's informative press conference appearance

Yale won their very first NCAA tournament game last year over No. 5 seed Baylor -- and Baylor players were obviously not happy. When a reporter asked Taurean Prince how the team was out-rebounded by Yale, he was not having it. "You go up and grab the ball off the rim when it comes off, and then you grab it with two hands, and you come down with it, and that's considered a rebound," he said. "So they got more of those than we did." He physically demonstrated what that would look like. Twice.

4. Coach Sean Miller sweats through his shirt

After having to travel 3,000 miles in one day to face an unknown opponent, No. 6 Arizona had a lot to sweat about. They faced No. 11 Witchita State -- a team that barely made the tournament at all, and the Shockers left them, well, shocked. Arizona's coach, Sean Miller, really sweat through the game, literally -- Twitter could not stop staring at his poor white shirt.. CBS Sports documented the progression of the sweat:

3. Northern Iowa blows a massive lead in half a minute

The No. 11 seed was blissfully conquering No. 3 Texas A&M until a series of misfires led them to blow a 12-point lead in only 35 seconds. It's heartbreaking, but a little impressive.

2. Marcus Paige sinks the most ridiculous shot known to mankind ...

In the final few moments of the National Championship, an incredible jump shot by a No. 1 seed North Carolina star looked like it was going to tie the game and send them into overtime. The photo went viral because of Paige's unusual form. Even Michael Jordan was stunned.

1. ... And somehow, so does Kris Jenkins -- but this one wins the National Championship

A split second later, while North Carolina fans were still rejoicing, No. 2 Villanova got the ball and sunk a 3-point shot as time expired. And that was that.

March truly is Madness. We'll see what viral moments define the 2017 National Championship in the next few weeks.
