Woman's hilarious excuse to her teacher goes viral

Breakups are hard -- and sometimes they can affect us professionally as well as personally.

Rachel Harriman, a 19-year-old student at Ohio State University, may have had the best excuse for not getting in work on time.

She shared the excuse email on Twitter:

"My boyfriend unexpectedly broke up with me yesterday evening and I was a complete, unfocused mess who did not account for such a time consuming hiccup to affect my Sunday productivity," she wrote her professor.

"This will obviously not happen again, as I am no longer 'in a relationship' and will have no one to break up with me next Sunday," she continued. Harriman also made sure to apologize for the personal information dump: "I am very sorry that this is kind of uncomfortable. It is for me too."

Harriman's funny -- and relatable -- email went viral, getting thousands of likes and retweets. She shared her teacher's response to BuzzFeed:

Her professor's not the only one to support her. Observers on social media were quick to be on her side:

Harimann did get her assignment in eventually -- and according to BuzzFeed received a B+.
