President Trump is set to deliver remarks on Thursday from a new Navy supercarrier based in Virginia's Newport News Shipyard.

The new supercarrier, named the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), is both the most advanced and expensive warship ever built -- with a final $12.9 billion price tag.

In speaking to an audience of shipbuilders and sailors, the president is expected to address the need for increased military spending. The visit comes on the heels of Trump's announced budget proposal that includes a $54 billion spending increase for the Department of Defense -- a 10 percent increase over last year.

The event is expected to begin at 2:30 p.m. EST.
