A tourist visiting Rio De Janeiro for Carnival was shot after mistakenly entering a slum using Google Maps.

The 42-year-old Argentinian tourist was shot in the back after she drove into the slum with her husband and another couple while using Google Maps to try to find 'Christ The Redeemer.'

According to local police, a group of men believed to be drug dealers approached their vehicle, fired into it, then fled.

The woman is in surgery to remove the bullet and is reportedly in serious condition.

The slums in the area, some only a mile away from Carnival festivities, are considered very dangerous.

Late last year in the same slum an Italian citizen was shot and killed while traveling by motorcycle.
