George W. Bush's daughter to speak at Planned Parenthood benefit

Former first daughter Barbara Pierce Bush has been announced as the keynote speaker for an annual luncheon benefiting Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, according to the organization's website.

Her support is a noticeable departure from the stance of her father, George W. Bush, who the Texas Tribune points out, "was a staunch abortion opponent during his time as Texas governor and as president."

However, in June of last year, the New York Times profiled the friendship between Barbara Bush and Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

During the Times interview with the pair, Barbara Bush called Planned Parenthood "an exceptional organization."

She will be speaking at the group's event as "CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps, an organization that mobilizes a global community of young leaders to build the movement for health equity."

Proceeds from the March 1 fundraising luncheon will help provide "...essential healthcare and health education services to women, men, and young people in Central and North Texas."
