The total came in at roughly $24 million.

According to the police department, daily costs for the protection of Melania and Barron Trump run between $127,000 and $146,000, notes the New York Times.

That figure jumps to $308,000 a day when the president is staying in the penthouse, which he has reportedly not done since being sworn in.

The Week reports that the NYPD now anticipates it will spend $50 million per year if the first lady and Barron stay in the New York City after the school year or $60 million if President Trump begins to pay regular weekend visits.

In the letter detailing the adjustments, Police Commissioner James P. O'Neil also noted, "Trump Tower itself now presents a target to those who wish to commit acts of terror against our country, further straining our limited counterterrorism resources."
