President Trump rips 'dishonest media,' says administration runs like 'fine-tuned machine'

President Donald Trump ripped into the "dishonest" and "out of control media" on Thursday, in what some are calling his most vicious offensive yet.

The White House announced the press conference Thursday morning, billing Trump's first solo press conference since taking office as an announcement of Trump's new labor secretary nominee.

"I'm making this presentation directly to the American people with the media present, which is an honor to have you, this morning, because many of our nation's reporters and folks will not tell you the truth," Trump opened the presser. "And will not treat the wonderful people of our country with the respect that they deserve."

Trump announced Alexander Acosta as his new choice to lead the U.S. Department of Labor before continuing to scold the state of American media.

"Much of the media in Washington, D.C., along with New York, Los Angeles in particular, speaks for the special interests and for those profiting off the obviously very, very broken system," Trump said. "The press has become so dishonest that if we don't talk about it, we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people. The press is out of control, the level of dishonesty is out of control."

Trump continued, saying that he "inherited a mess" from the previous administration and then responded to earlier "fake news" reports of his administration being in a state of chaos.

"I open the paper and I see stories of chaos, chaos," Trump said. "It's the exact opposite. This administration is running like a fine-tuned machine, despite not being able to get my cabinet approved."

The president told a CNN correspondent he doesn't mind critical stories as long as they aren't fake, adding that he doesn't appreciated the press' "tone." "The tone is such hatred."

"The public doesn't believe you anymore," said Trump. "Maybe I had something to do with that, I don't know."
