Plane collides with deer during takeoff, no injuries reported

Flights can face many obstacles, but a plane recently encountered one in the form of an unexpected visitor on the runway.

According to the Charlotte Observer, a passenger aircraft had to declare an emergency after hitting a deer during takeoff.

The incident reportedly involved an American Eagle plane departing Charlotte Douglas International Airport for Gulfport, Mississippi, on Wednesday, notes WSOC.

The animal is believed to have been struck on or around the runway at approximately11:45 am, and about half an hour later, the plane returned to the airport.

Forty-four passengers were evacuated with no reported injuries, but the runway was temporarily closed due to fuel leakage; it has since been reopened.

The fate of the deer is unknown, but an airport spokesperson has indicated that officials plan on reviewing how the deer was able to enter the area.
