John Podesta: 'Forces with the FBI' didn't want Hillary Clinton to win

Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta recently reflected on the events leading up to the 2016 presidential election.

While participating in NewCo Shift Forum on Wednesday, Podesta took aim at the FBI investigation pertaining to the alleged hacking activities by Russia.

According to TechCrunch, Podesta said, "I think to this day it's inexplicable that they were so casual about the investigation of the Russian penetration of the DNC emails. They didn't even bother to send an agent to the DNC; they left a couple of messages at the IT help desk saying, 'You might want to be careful.'"

Podesta continued, "There are at least forces within the FBI that wanted her to lose."

Back in December, the Obama administration announced various measures against Russia for its attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, notes the New York Times.

They included removing 35 members of Russian intelligence from the U.S. and imposing sanctions on a variety of government-related individuals and groups.

More recently, a declassified report by the U.S. intelligence officials was released whichnoted, in part, "we assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election."

It further read, "Russia's goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump. We have 'high confidence' in these judgments."
