Textbook sparks outrage after experiment suggests killing kittens

Kittens are bundles of pure love and joy, yet a textbook used at a large number of schools in north India instructs students how to kill them, reports the Indian Express.

The tutorial is included in 'Our Green World: Environmental Studies' as part of a lesson on how essential air is to life.

It instructs, "Take two wooden boxes. Make holes on lid of one box. Put a small kitten in each box. Close the boxes. After some time open the boxes. What do you see? The kitten inside the box without the holes has died."

There has been a great deal of outrage on the matter.

Many teachers removed the page from the book, and at least one parent contacted the publisher demanding the passage be excluded, notes the BBC.

Parvesh Gupta, a spokesperson for the publisher, PP Publications, has since announced, "We recalled books from our distribution channel and will come out with a revised book next year."
