Baby chimpanzee rejected by his mother gets a second chance at companionship

Updated

Can, a baby chimpanzee in Turkey, was rejected by his mother Angel at the Gaziantep Zoo. Once Angel had refused her son milk, the zoo had to step in and separate them. Thankfully, Can has been welcomed with open arms by his human companions.

Nedim Aslan is now the official caretaker the baby chimp. Can seems to be adjusting nicely to his new friend as he snuggles against Aslan's chest. The little guy can be seen clinging to his new 'parent' in almost every photo. Chimpanzees are actually known to cling to their mothers until they are more mobile at around 6 months. Can will be without a doubt be in excellent hands; his new caretaker is actually the man who raised his mother Angel for the past 15 years.

See photos of Can below:

Visitors have gotten the chance to get an up close look at what it's like to care for wild animals while helping Can with his daily feedings.

While this chimpanzee may not have started out his life with the care he deserves, it's pretty clear that there's an endless amount of people who want to help him live the best life possible.
