Website under fire for controversial description of congresswoman

On Monday, California Representative Maxine Waters became the "face of impeachment talk" when she took to talk shows and social media to denounce President Trump as "questionable."

Website AJ Plus shared a video on Twitter Thursday seemingly meant to honor the Democratic congresswoman with the caption, "Meet @MaxineWaters, the sassy congresswoman leading the fight to impeach President Trump."

Since the video was shared, many have taken to Twitter to express outrage over the vocabulary employed to describe Waters, a top-ranking lawmaker.

In particular, their use of the word "sassy" has come under fire, a word that The Grio points out has been used historically to stereotype and delegitimize black women.
