Shatterproof glass sends would-be thieves packing

A couple of would-be thieves encountered an unforeseen impediment while trying to rob a Florida gas station this week: the front door.

Surveillance footage from Mobil station in Port St. Lucie Police Department shows two suspects as they attempt to force their way inside the store early Tuesday morning.

But when one suspect used a hammer to try and break through a door, the glass fractures but holds strong.

After several unsuccessful hits with the hammer, the suspect then rams his body into the shattered door but was still unsuccessful in gaining entry, Port St. Lucie PD said in a statement.

The second suspect also used a hammer to attempt to gain entry, but was also unable to penetrate the glass.

The problem? It was impact-resistant glass.

Perhaps realizing their mistake, cops said "the suspects then fled the scene in shame."
