Jenna Bush Hager slams Trump travel ban: 'This is not the America I know'

Updated

Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager shared her thoughts on President Trump's controversial immigration ban on Tuesday, saying "this is not the America I know."

"The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace," the NBC News correspondent said in a letter she shared via Twitter. "These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war."

The Trump administration stands by the ban that they say is in place "to protect the American people from terrorist attacks by foreign nationals admitted to the United States."

Former President Barack Obama released a statement on Monday, joining both Democratic and Republican voices opposing Trump's travel ban. In his first statement since leaving the White House, Obama's spokesman said the 44th president was "heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country."
