Kellyanne Conway stands up for Tiffany Trump after voter registration claims

Updated

Senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway shut down claims on Thursday that the president's youngest daughter was registered to vote in two states.

After multiple reports of those in Trump's inner circle being registered to vote in two states, the senior White House adviser stood up for Tiffany Trump -- describing the report of the first family member's "double' registration as "flatly false."

"She had been registered in Pennsylvania and went through the process, [and] said it was very byzantine and took a long time, but she said that she is not registered to vote in two states," Conway said of the information Trump has relayed.

NBC News reports state officials that as of Thursday say Tiffany Trump is a registered voter in both Pennsylvania and New York.

Heightened attention on voter registration comes in the wake of President Trump's announcement that he will seek a "major investigation" into voter fraud during the 2016 election and prior. This announcement came after the commander in chief and White House press secretary stood by the belief that "illegal voters" lost the 45th president the popular vote.

The Trump administration's continued concern with losing the popular vote stands in contrast with Spicer's comments during a Jan. 25 press conference, though, where he said "The president campaigned to win the Electoral College, not the popular vote."

In the past week, White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Sean Spicer himself have each been reported as registered to vote in two states.
