Scientists plan their own massive march on Washington

Updated

In response to recent restrictions placed on the scientific community in regards to dissemination of publicly-funded research, several scientists are reportedly planning a March on Washington of their very own.

A Twitter account started on Monday called March for Science has been trying to gather support for the cause, tweeting out periodic updates and rallying messages.

Apparently, the entire idea for the march started — where else? — on Reddit, where several scientists commiserating about President's Trumps policies on climate change were discussing the best way to respond to the administration's hostile attitude towards science.

As often does in the scientific community, big words and ideas led to big actions -- the march's official Twitter account has already garnered nearly 50,000 enthusiastic followers.

Judging by the star-studded turn out of the Women's March, we can only dream about the talent that may show their faces at the science march.

Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson — we're looking at you.
