Kim Jong Un wants Trump meeting, says North Korean defector

A North Korean defector says that Kim Jong Un would like to meet with President Trump.

The defector, Thae Yong Ho, was formerly the deputy ambassador of the North Korean embassy in London, the most senior diplomat to defect in almost 20 years according to CNN.

Thae cautioned against a meeting between Kim Jong Un and Trump, saying it would strengthen Kim by lending him legitimacy.

During the U.S. presidential campaign, Trump told Reuters, "I would speak to [Kim], I would have no problem speaking to him."

Thae says Kim sees it as a, "good opportunity for him to open a kind of compromise with the new american administration."

North Korea recently tested an intermediate-range missile and released a video of Kim overseeing the event.
