Amazing 4-year-old girl has already read 1,000 books

At four years old, it's pretty impressive if you know how to read at all -- but Daliyah Marie Arana has already read more than 1,000 books.

According to The Washington Post, Daliyah has been exposed to books for years. Her mother and brother read aloud near her even before she was born, and by the time she was 18 months old, she began recognizing words.

"She wanted to take over and do the reading on her own," Haleema Arana, Daliyah's mother, told The Washington Post. "It kind of took off from there. The more words she learned, the more she wanted to read."

Daliyah read her first book at 2 years and 11 months. Now, at age 4, she reads at a college level.

The preschooler impressed the leader of the nation's library, Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress. Wednesday, Daliyah was given the chance to shadow Hayden as "librarian for the day."

The child roamed the world's largest library, attended executive meetings and rocked a pink dress with a matching pink bow.

Hayden herself made history this year as the first woman and the first African American to run the nation's library.

She posed for adorable photos with her adorable protege.

"(Daliyah) just kept saying how the Library of Congress is her most favorite, favorite, favorite library in the whole wide world," Haleema Arana told The Washington Post.

Daliyah told the Gainesville Times that she likes to check out books every day from her local library.

"I want to teach other kids to read at an early age, too," she added.
