Are you ready for disaster? Prepare your family with Save the Children
Disasters happen. In fact, each year more types of disasters happen in the U.S. than any other nation in the world. But the U.S. is underprepared to protect children in emergencies, leaving them vulnerable to harm that can affect the course of their lives. According to a survey from the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University's Earth Institute, 65 percent of American households don't have adequate emergency plans and supplies and 41 percent of parents aren't familiar with their child's school plans.
That's why RB, the leading global health and hygiene company known for popular brands such as Mucinex® and Lysol,® and Save the Children, the international leader in child-focused emergency response, have teamed up to better protect children in emergencies here in the U.S. As Save the Children's largest global partner since 2003, RB has helped pursue a vision where no child under five dies from preventable causes. And now, through the Save the Children's "Get Ready, Get Safe" initiative, RB is mobilizing U.S. employees as champions for children and helping families prepare their homes for emergencies in local schools and communities.
Save the Children's "Get Ready, Get Safe" initiative is designed to make emergency preparedness doable for families and teachable for children with easy-to-use resources and activities. Through fun games like the disaster supplies relay and the dance party, its flagship Prep Rally program helps children learn basics of disaster preparedness through three simple Prep Steps including, 1) Knowing ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts, 2) making a home plan, and 3) packing a go-bag. Equipped with these skills and tools, children become preparedness advocates within their own homes, so that they are ready to weather any storm. With a commitment to creating healthy and happy homes and a passion to protect the most vulnerable, RB and Save the Children are ensuring that, in times of crises, our children will be safe.
