At least 5 dead, 8 injured in Ft. Lauderdale airport shooting

At least five people are confirmed dead and eight injured after a gunman opened fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday afternoon.

Broward County Sheriff's office reported the shooting at 1:43 p.m., tweeting that there was "an ongoing incident in Terminal 2, Baggage Claim."

The suspected shooter was identified as Esteban Santiago by Fla. Sen. Bill Nelson who told reporters Santiago was carrying a military ID, but did not elaborate.

Former press secretary for U.S. President George W. Bush Ari Fleischer, who was inside the airport, tweeted there was a shooting and that everyone was running.
