Trump's congratulatory message gets relentlessly mocked on Twitter

As announced on Tuesday, the U.S. Consumer Confidence Index recently hit a high mark not seen in some time, reports ABC News.

Not long after, Donald Trump swooped in, tweeting himself a congratulatory message.

He wrote, "The U.S. Consumer Confidence Index for December surged nearly four points to 113.7, THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN 15 YEARS! Thanks Donald!"

Here's a sampling of how people reacted.

One person wrote, "...Did you seriously just thank yourself in a tweet from your own Twitter account?," to which someone responded, "Dude is talking to himself in the third person."

Another person joined that conversation, trying to make sense of the self reference, noting, "Yep, either that or inattentive staffer posted from the wrong account. Who knows what goes on in the Tower..."

There were also many who just rolled with the 'Thanks Donald' message. Those comments included, "It will only be a matter of time before he starts thanking himself for the sun coming up #ThanksDonald," and, "#ThanksDonald for creating Christmas and Jesus."

Trump also highlighted the boost in other economic indicators on Monday, tweeting, "The world was gloomy before I won – there was no hope. Now the market is up nearly 10% and Christmas spending is over a trillion dollars!"
