How two men landed an apartment in Manhattan for $1 a month

WEST VILLAGE, Manhattan (WPIX) — Rupert Hunt's search for two roommates to share his multi-million dollar apartment for just $1 a month is over.

This week Jacob Castaldi and Cyrus Schenck moved in to the gorgeous apartment in the West Village with Hunt.

Schenck told PIX11, "I never in a million years would have guess that I would be here so I am pretty psyched."

Hunt is the founder of SpareRoom.com. He recently moved to New York City and wanted to rent out his spare bedrooms for $1 a month.

"I had 9,000 applications," Hunt said.

While some of the applicants were creative, Hunt's decision came down to the right fit. All three new roommates are entrepreneurs.

"We just really hit it off well I was really inspired by what they are doing with their businesses," Hunt told PIX11. "It wasn't just the cheap rent that was going to help with their businesses, it was also living with other entrepreneurs can be really inspiring and a helpful support network at home."
