Zoo sets up Target gift registry for pregnant orangutan
A Texas zoo set up a Target gift registry for a couple of orangutans that includes Britney Spears' "Fantasy" perfume and "Kidz Bop 29."
Mei and KJ are expecting a little orangutan baby in late January.
In 2014, Mei had a baby who died tragically. Since then, the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas, has been trying desperately to help save the species from extinction.
Zookeeper Laura Klutts told CBS affiliate KWTX that one of the main items they are looking for are any fun, family friendly CDs -- but there's a whole lot more on the list.
Here are some of our favorite items from the registry:
Dolly Parton CD
"Zootopia" DVD
Various air fresheners
"The Princess Bride" DVD
Various types of paint and chalk
$15 iTunes gift card
"Finding Dory" blankets
Food processor
Coral bath towel
iPod Shuffle
Bubble machines and wands, including a bubble gun
Framed mirror
Blender
Juicy Couture body spray
You can find the whole list here.
Zoo curator of exhibits and programs Terri Cox told CBS News its the zoo's duty to develop a connection with the animals.
"In a perfect zoo we'd love for everything to live in their natural habitat," she said. "But in order to save the species, we have specific survival plans."
Almost all items on the registry are under $25 and were carefully selected to provide enrichment for the new arrival and other zoo animals.
Enrichment items help determine success in stimulating animals mentally and physically, and scientists keep careful watch over how the items are used.
The zoo is planning to host a baby shower on Dec. 18, where human guests will be able to enjoy cake.
