Woman robbed at knifepoint by assailant in clown mask
A man in a clown mask and Dodger hat robbed a woman he targeted in an underground parking garage, Montebello police said Thursday in releasing video of the crime.
The woman got out of her car after parking in the garage, where a man "lying in wait" approached her, according to a Montebello Police Department video posted on Twitter.
The video shows the man — in a black hooded sweatshirt, clown mask, jeans and a Dodger hat — grabbing the woman.
He brandished a small pocket knife, putting it up to her face, and threatened to kill her if she didn't give him her belongings, police said.
The woman gave the masked man her laptop, but begged him to allow her to keep it, Sgt. Marc Marty said. The man then asked for her purse, and fearing for her safety, she handed it over. He fled on foot.
Police said the robber was a Hispanic man, about 20 years old, with short hair.
The crime occurred in the 1600 block of Neil Armstrong Street; the surveillance video is dated Oct. 29. It's not clear why police released it nearly six weeks later.
Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Antista at 323-887-1200, ext. 249.
