The past week in news has been dominated largely by devastating events. Wildfires have taken a destructive toll on the resort town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, killing 11 so far, and a tragic plane crash in the mountains of Colombia took the lives of 71 people on board, including many players from a Brazilian soccer team.

There were mixed feelings around the world in response to the death of Fidel Castro last Friday, while Cuba went into a mourning period for several days.

In politics, President-elect Donald Trump began his victory tour around the United States and continued to select the members of his administration.
