Alabama police officer Joel Husk has been terminated from his job for releasing at least two posts on social media which have been perceived as racist, reports WVTM.
According to The Daily Home, one of the memes on his Facebook page allegedly included "a black and white photograph of bodies strewn across a battlefield with the words 'Over 620,000 white people died to free black slaves and still to this day not even 1 thank you.'"
The media outlet then states another "showed pictures of first lady-elect Melania Trump and the caption 'Fluent in Slovenian, English, French, Serbian and German,' next to first lady Michelle Obama and the caption 'Fluent In Ghetto.'"
Talladega City Manager Patrick Bryant has publicly confirmed the dismissal, telling the Washington Post that Husk breached department policies on conduct and social media.
He also commented to WBRC, "We will not tolerate that kind of conduct by any employees. We take very seriously our responsibility to treat everyone equally and equitably. We have to make sure we take steps for the community to trust us."
