'Hamilton' actor issues bold response to Trump's attack

A star of the hit Broadway musical 'Hamilton' has responded to President-elect Donald Trump's criticism about how Mike Pence was treated when he went to see the show on Friday, reports PEOPLE.

Early Saturday morning, Trump tweeted, "Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!"

Proud of @HamiltonMusical. Proud of @BrandonVDixon, for leading with love. And proud to remind you that ALL are welcome at the theater.
There was a full 3 minute standing ovation @HamiltonMusical when the King sang "On Your Own" directly at Mike Pence. This is catharsis.

Unreal scene here - Mike Pence walks in and there's a massive mix of cheers and boos. https://t.co/GVZ5L67mA3
I'm at #Hamilton and so is Mike Pence. Crowd booed him like crazy, and gave a standing O at the line "immigrants we get the job done" 1/2
2/2 Crowd went NUTS at King George's lines "when people say they hate you" & "do you know how hard it is to lead?" He had to stop the song.
Another theatergoer w/ Pence at "Hamilton" tells me there was "massive, extended applause at 'Immigrants, we get the job done'" line
During "You'll Be Back (Reprise)" they had to keep pausing the song while people jeered Pence on every line. https://t.co/ZSIG7qnfiM
Just heard from friend in NY that Mike Pence is seeing Hamilton tonight and was BOOED by the theatre when he walked in

He then issued a follow-up post, reading, "The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!"

Brandon Victor Dixon, who has the role of Aaron Burr, has since responded to Trump's first message by tweeting back, "conversation is not harassment sir. And I appreciate [Mike Pence] for stopping to listen."

The conflict arose over remarks the show delivered to Pence right after the performance; a video posted to Hamilton's Twitter account shows Dixon standing with his cast members telling the audience that Pence was in attendance.

Some people started to boo, but Dixon told them, "There's nothing to boo here. We're all here sharing a story of love."

Though the Vice President-elect was on his way out, Dixon asked him to listen to a brief message. After thanking him for attending, the actor said, in part, "We, sir...we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us."

The New York Times reports that Pence listened to the whole message but notes he "made no comment and was photographed smiling as he left the theater."
