Lost dog brings Republicans and Democrats together

Updated

Dog lovers on both sides of the political spectrum joined together in a new ad when they saw a lost dog.

A three-minute ad released by Pedigree, a pet food company, opens with footage of the contentious 2016 presidential election.

Messages such as "Hillary for prison" and "Stop Trump" flash on the screen.

"This election has brought out the worst in us," the ad says. "We sought to remind people what brings out the good."

We then see a woman taking a "lost" dog to rallies for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Each time she appears at a rally, she is wearing a shirt supporting the other nominee.

And again, each time, people cast aside their political differences to bond with the woman over the adorable dog she is guiding.

"We do agree that we love dogs, and dogs love us," says a man dressed in a Trump shirt.

Craig Neely, the vice president of marketing for Mars Petcare, told CNNMoney he hoped the ad would play a small role in reminding people we are more alike than different.

The television spot is set to air on CNN and Fox during election coverage on Monday and Tuesday.
