Body Cam: Mom fights cop with one hand, holds baby with other after DWI accident

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Body camera footage captured a mother screaming and fighting with police officers while her baby was in her arms.

According to NewsFix, the unnamed woman was riding in a truck with her baby on her lap when she crashed.

When an officer approached her, it was clear something was off.

The officer tried to examine the baby, but she refused to let go and began swinging at him.

NewsFix shared the transcript of their conversation from the body camera footage that was taken:

Officer: "The baby needs to be checked by medical."

Mother: "He's fine!"

Officer: "No he's not. You don't have a choice."

NewsFix notes that at this point, her arms were freed.

Officer: "Do not swing at me."

Mother: "I did not swing at you."

The officer repeatedly asks the woman to sit down.

Officer: "Don't touch me. I'm tired of you swinging at me!"

According to NewsFix, the driver, a man named Thomas Whitaker, may have been drunk at the time.

He is charged with DWI and second degree child abuse, and the woman was charged with DUI.

The child is now in state custody.
