Terrifying creature lurking near surfer caught on camera

American tourist Derik Boshar was hanging out on the beach at Byron Bay, Australia, when he encountered the most terrifying fright possible -- a shark lurking just beneath the surface of the water.

Though the surfers he was watching got away untouched, the whole scary ordeal was caught on camera.

Boshar recorded the shark as he swam.

"We were looking down at all the surfers having a good time, and we saw this shark," he told The Northern Star.

"It just slowly moves in towards the surfers and you can kinda of hear some people in the background say, 'We should warn them."

After one surfer went over the shark with his board, the massive beast disappeared into the waters.

According to Mashable, shark attacks are pretty rare. Byron Bay has experienced nearly 20 attacks in the past 25 years.
