Death investigation near McAdoo
KLINE TOWNSHIP (WNEP) -- Authorities in Schuylkill County are investigating a man's death after gunfire Tuesday morning.
Police swarmed James Street in Kline Township around 10 a.m. and found the man's body outside of a home, apparently shot to death.
"I was laying in bed and I just heard three bangs. The first bang sounded like a gunshot. The second two didn't really sound like anything major. Then next thing you know, there are cops all up and down James Street," said neighbor Logan Jones.
See images from the scene:
Colleen Gombert saw a photo of the scene on social media and recognized her son's car at the scene. That's when she came to the scene and got the news no mother wants to hear.
Police confirm the man killed was her oldest son, 27-year-old David Gombert.
Family members of the victim tell us he was being threatened on Facebook and when the victim showed up to confront the person who threatened him, he was shot and killed.
Mrs. Gombert, obviously too distraught to talk on camera, quickly left the scene but later sent a text message saying, "David was being threatened and harassed by Eric Mumaw, the man who shot and killed him."
Police believe that Eric Mumaw is the shooter, but so far no charges have been filed against him.
"He was just a happy-go-lucky guy. He just got a new car. He was showing it off," said a family friend of the victim.
Family friends are just distraught and upset because they say David Gombert had just gone to police to report that Eric Mumaw was threatening him on Facebook.
According to the family, state police told him they couldn't do anything. That is when Gombert came to James Street to confront Mumaw and ended up shot and killed.
The victim's family told us the root of all the tension between the man killed and the alleged shooter seems to be over a girl.
