Man goes to burn unit after gas pump explodes in his face
SENATOBIA, Miss. (WREG) -- A man is recovering after he says he was burned at the pump.
"All I remember was PBFFF!"
Kent Burton said it happened so quickly, he had no time to react.
"The fire just hit me in my face and it scared me so bad."
Burton said he was pumping gas at the Shell gas station on Main Street Tuesday afternoon. When he applied the self-pumping feature, he said the whole thing went up in flames.
"My cousin, he was behind me and he was like, 'Get away from the truck! Get away from the truck! Get away from the truck!' And I was just shaking my head trying to see what had just happened."
There was some damage to Burton's SUV. The flames charred the gas tank and melted some of the rubber along the windows.

Less visible was the damage it did to Burton himself, but it was enough to send him to the burn unit in Memphis.
"I didn't feel nothing 'till 15 minutes later. That`s when I started feeling my face burn. My nose started burning. My eyelids, eyebrows, side of my hair, my hands was on fire."
Burton said he's thankful to be alive, but a day later, he and his wife Crystal said even doing the most basic of tasks has become something they dread.
"I actually had to get gas this morning. It took everything in me to get gas, `cause I was scared," said Crystal.
