Watch: Baby elephant rushes to rescue 'drowning' human friend

Not all heroes wear capes, but some do have trunks.

Staff from the Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand have captured a heartwarming display of the bond between human and animal.

A young elephant rushed to save volunteer Darrick Thomson from some swift-moving river rapids, according to YouTube uploaders Elephant News.

The young elephant Kham Lha is seen charging into the river after hearing a semi-submerged Thomson's kicks, splashing and calls and apparently interpreting them as a distress call.

Thomson was in fact not in any great danger, and he swam to the rivers edge. But infant elephant Kham Lha went swam to his side, just in case.

As Elephant News described it, "This video show the bond between Darrick and elephant Kham Lha ...This is can show us that, when we treat animal with love, they always paid love back to us."
