Donald Trump is 9 points behind Hillary Clinton in Ohio

Donald Trump has fallen 9 percentage points behind Hillary Clinton in Ohio, a battleground state the Republican nominee must carry in order to have any shot at the White House.

The Democratic nominee leads Trump 48 percent to 38 percent, according to a Baldwin Wallace Community Research Institute survey taken after Sunday night's second presidential debate. Fourteen percent are undecided in the head-to-head matchup.

When Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are included, the result is only marginally better for Trump: a 9-point advantage for Clinton. She nets 43 percent to Trump's 34 percent.

This is the latest fallout from the most devastating period of Trump's campaign: Following the revelation of a tape showing him making lewd and offensive comments about women, many elected Republican leaders abandoned his wayward candidacy, making the bet that he can no longer win.

Ohio has been one of Trump's strongest battlegrounds because of the small proportion of minority voters. If the Election Day result is anything close to this survey, Trump will lose to Clinton in a landslide.

Other Ohio polls taken prior to the Oct. 9 debate showed Clinton overtaking Trump, but by a much smaller margin. The last survey of the Buckeye State, taken ahead of last Friday's revelation of Trump on tape, placed Clinton up by 4 points.
