Teen dresses as thief for culture day because 'white people steal everyone's culture'

Last week, students at Springbrook High School dressed up for cultural day.

Josh Welch, a senior at the school in Maryland, wore only a black tee and sweatpants.

He said he wanted to make a bold statement about cultural appropriation as a white person.

"Dressed like a thief for culture day bc white people steal everyone else's culture," he wrote on Twitter

He told BuzzFeed News he wanted to come to school and participate in grassroots activism.

White people have been accused of stealing cultural trends without proper credit -- especially recently.

Kylie Jenner, the Kardashians and Justin Bieber have been accused of it, and so have brands such as Free People and Marc Jacobs.

With Halloween on the horizon, it's no wonder people are starting conversations about cultural appropriation.
