Horror ensues as haunted house ride mysteriously catches on fire

Customers looking for a cheap fright got a little more than they bargained for on September 24 when a portion of a haunted house attraction in Farmington, Utah, mysteriously caught on fire.

"It went up fast," Kyle Stringham, who was on a date with his wife Cazree at the Night Walk Haunted House when the fire broke out, told KSTU.

"She hates haunted houses. So, I'm having fun pushing her through to the next room. Suddenly, this guy runs up and scares us and then he says, 'A fire, a fire!'"

Unsurprisingly, Stringham initially thought the blaze was part of the ride -- until people started screaming and running away.

Almost immediately, employees began evacuating patrons from the attraction.

In the background of video shot by Stringham, park employees can be heard telling guests to stop recording and to put their phones away.

"I think the workers were worried that this whole thing was going to be caught on video," Stringham told KSTU. "They were very forceful. There was a guy behind me that said, 'Touch me, I dare you.'"

A spokesman for Lagoon Amusement Park, however, said the employees yelling about pictures were concerned for people's safety as they lingered to take photos of the fire.

"I think the employees were trying to expeditiously get people away from the fire," said Adam Leishman.

Although it is reported the fire began in a mechanical prop malfunction of some kind, the exact cause is still under investigation -- spooky.
