Navy dad surprises daughter in class after deployment

Military families across the country face the difficult task of being separated from loved ones for extended periods of time. While this can take a heavy toll on families, the time spent apart makes the reunions even sweeter.

Ava Blake is a kindergarten student at Donelson Elementary School. Her father, Chris Blake, a Navy E4 Traffic Controller, had been deployed since January and she had not seen him in person since.

On returning to Arlington, TN, Blake decided to surprise his daughter who he hadn't seen for months in her classroom. He told WREG that his only hope was that she remembered who he was.

"I'm feeling extra nervous. She's been on my mind all the time," Blake told WREG before surprising his daughter in her classroom.

When Blake entered the classroom, he got his one wish. Ava automatically recognized her father and ran to embrace him.
