Group carries friend with muscular dystrophy on adventure through Europe

Fox8 -- Kevan Chandler is, in a way, a modern day Don Quixote. As the song goes, from the Broadway play, "Man of La Mancha," he dreams the impossible dream ... and then – along with some friends – makes it come true.

"Whatever I could've dreamed, it went way beyond that," Chandler said.

Chandler is wheelchair bound but he and his friends didn't let that stop them from a once-in-a-lifetime trip across Europe, from the streets of Paris to the hills of Skellig Michael, off the coast of Ireland. But remember those words in the last sentence: Chandler is wheelchair bound. That didn't bother Tom Troyer or the rest of his friends.

"Most of it just felt like a great trip - a bunch of friends getting to backpack Europe," says Troyer.

Except most friends don't backpack around Europe with another man on their back. But that's what these four friends did, with two others along to document it for a film they plan to put out, next year.

For Chandler and Troyer, there is a larger lesson in all this than just having fun seeing the great sights of the world.

"I think it's always been a theme of this trip, these guys carrying me and that idea of the love of God that, in a sense, Jesus carries us through."

A shared faith that helps them get through tough time ... and through Europe, with Chandler on their backs.

"Bottom line is, be there for everybody you can be there for," Troyer says.

In this edition of the Buckley Report, see how they carried Chandler and some of the great places they went.
