Horrifying turbulence leaves plane passengers with broken bones

Turbulence when flying is always scary; sometimes we're fortunate enough that it does not last long. For the poor passengers of this particular United flight, however, that was not the case.

A Boeing 677 was flying from Houston to London when it experienced severe turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean. It could not make it to Heathrow, and instead diverted to Shannon, Ireland.

Nikki Hartin Boriack, a passenger of this flight, posted about her experience on Facebook:

Boriack's flight attendant said she has never experienced such bad turbulence in her 20 years on the job. Boriack herself left with a few bruises, but she wrote that others ended up with broken bones. "I know I don't know these people, but please pray for them," she said.

Boriack spoke to UK paper The Metro about the scary incident. "It was a very quiet flight, then there was a very big drop," she said. "People that weren't buckled in went flying around the cabin."

Both passengers and plane supplies -- like food and utensils -- flew around the plane. She estimated 25 people, including several children, were hurt. Thankfully, Boriack noted that the flight attendants were "amazing" in helping people.

A representative from United stated that the airline is providing support for those affected.
