MAYFIELD, Ky -- When Madison Stephens treated her 15-month-old son to a burger from McDonald's, she didn't think it would turn into a nightmare.

She told WPSD that she got herself a burger as well, and when she was about to bite into it, a worm fell out and started crawling toward her son's food.

"If I hadn't seen that worm, my son would have eaten that, because it was already on top of his sandwich," Stephens told WPSD. "That's how close he came to eating it."

At a different McDonald's in Draffenville, which is about 25 miles away, Lacey Jo Lovett says she also found a worm in her burger.

Stephens told WPSD she called and complained, and McDonald's sent her a $10 gift card in the mail.

She said that she didn't want money, and that they even offered it was a slap in the face.

"That scared me and as a mom," Stephens said. "I don't want another child to have to experience something like that."

A McDonald's franchisee told The Associated Press that he has not been able to substantiate the claims by the two customers.

Michael Love, owner-operator of the two restaurants, said health officers did not uncover any of those problems after doing an inspection.
