Woman Nearly Dies After Slip 'N Slide Accident

ROCKFORD, Mich. (WXMI) — It was supposed to be a day of fun in the sun, but a popular summer toy almost cost a Rockford woman her life when she suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling on a Slip 'N Slide.

Rosee Douthett took a hard fall last Saturday that nearly ended her life. Now, she credits the quick actions of her friends, who she says are more than likely the reason she is still alive.

The accident happened when she and her husband Jerry went to a party with some co-workers. After taking a nasty fall and hitting the back of her head, Rosee began to feel dizzy.

"I said 'are you OK?,' and she said, 'no,' and she went right to the ground," said Jerry Douthett, Rosee's husband. "When she went to the ground she had a full blown seizure."

Rosee suffered a sub-dural hemorrhage and her brain began to swell. Fortunately, Rosee, who is a registered nurse, was surrounded by hospital workers at the event who quickly rushed to her aid.

"I remember the third day in the ICU when I was talking," Rosee said. "The drain to my brain was still hanging. But I am awake."

Rosee's husband says Anthony Alvarado, and EMT at the party, kept her mouth open during her seizures and performed CPR when her heart stopped.

"I was very thankful to God for saving my life and the blessings I have received for such a quick recovery," Rosee said.

Rosee said she continues to have headaches and won't be able to return to her job for a little while. Some of her family still lives in the Philippines and she normally sends a good portion of her paychecks there to help out.
