Omar Abd-Almajid Qassoum is a 12-year-old Syrian refugee in Germany whose remarkable language skills have made him a star in his community and online. He's being called the youngest translator in Germany.

The preteen was first profiled by a German newspaper, and now his story is spreading across online communities for Syrian refugees. The 12-year-old, who rapidly became fluent in German, is being heralded as the youngest translator in the country.

Omar and his family fled the war in Syria and reached Germany in early 2016. According to an interview with the boy's father, they arrived at the village of Lastrup after fleeing their hometown in Syria. Omar enrolled in the local school and managed to learn German in a very short period of time. He then started working as a translator, first in his school and then in the local refugee housing center, helping new arrivals.

Omar's story was shared by thousands of Syrian refugees on Facebook, who are calling him "the pride of Syria.'
