An 18-year-old waitress received a rude comment in lieu of a tip for her service.

Sadie Elledge works at diner Jess' Lunch in Harrisonburg, Virginia. On Monday, she served a couple during the lunch shift; their meal cost $26, but under the tip wrote: "We only tip citizens."

Elledge spoke to local reporter Isabel Rosales in a Facebook Live interview:

Her father is from Honduras and mother from Mexico. Elledge herself is a US citizen, and grew up in Harrisonburg.

Elledge told Rosales she thought the remark was disrespectful, but she' s used to it. "I've had people make comments like 'Go make me a burrito,' but that's at school and I don't pay attention,'" she said.

Her grandfather, John Elledge, was shocked by the receipt. He took to posting it on Facebook:

He expressed his anger towards the customer: "Ada M. Doriot. You are a complete and total piece of dung."

The elder Elledge, a lawyer, told The Huffington Post that he was more upset than his granddaughter. "One of my other granddaughters works at my firm as a secretary," he said. "She told me and I flew off the handle."

The receipt went viral after Elledge posted it. The restaurant pulled surveillance footage, and the police are now involved.

Sadie, however, does not want to make a big deal out of the incident; she just wants to be treated fairly. She said, "It doesn't matter whether I'm Hispanic or American or whatever you want to call it."

"I'm still a person and you should still treat me with respect."
